What Type Of Metal Panel Fencing Is Most Affordable?

Overall, steel metal panels are the most affordable metal panel fencing type.

Some people feel that aluminum panels are a bit more cost-effective, but that is generally not the case. 

If you want a specific color, you will have to paint the aluminum panels yourself, which can make it very difficult to get the desired overall appearance you are going for.  

All of this leads to an overall increase in price. This brings us back to steel metal fencing panels being the best in overall cost. 

Not only that, at Wagler Steel, we have over 20 colors in three finishes as well as panels that are finished to look like wood. 

Is Metal Panel Fencing More Affordable Than Wooden Fences?

Yes. Metal panel fencing is more affordable than wooden fencing in the long haul, especially when you consider that metal fencing also lasts longer. If you are looking for the cheapest fencing option possible, there are some cheap wood fences that could be a solution for you. It will be a cheaper upfront cost but will not last as long as metal fencing. If you get a higher quality wooden fence, you will pay the same or more as a metal panel fence. 

Typically, metal fencing panels come in 3&#; wide sections that cost less than $24.00 per a 6&#; tall section. This means 9&#; of fencing coverage will cost you about $72.

On the other hand, wooden fencing that is 6&#; tall and 8&#; wide will run you about $67 a section of fencing. 

At first glance, you may think that our math is off $67 is certainly cheaper than $72. But lets break that down into price per a foot width. 

Wooden Fence: 8&#; wide : $8.37/per foot wide

Steel Fence: 9&#; wide : $8.00/ per foot wide 

As you can see, steel fencing panels are cheaper than wooden fencing panels when you break it down to cost per foot.

Can Metal Panel Fencing Come In Custom Lengths?

Yes. Metal panel fencing can come in custom lengths for your fence. However, the minimum length that a metal fencing panel can be cut is 2&#; long. On the other hand, you can have your metal panel cut up to 30&#; in length. However, if you need a 30-foot-tall fence for privacy, you may be better off moving away from those neighbors.

How Long Do Metal Panel Fences Last?

Metal panels, when used as fencing, are rated for use for 40 years by the manufacturer.  This means that you can rest assured that your fence will stand the test of time. Our metal panels are well-designed and well-built, giving you the high-quality product you need. Not only do our panels last a long time, we also will work to resolve any issues a customer may have with blemishes in the panels. 

However, if you are planning to use these panels as fences for livestock, any damage that comes from the livestock will void the warranty.  This is one reason we do not recommend using metal panels around your cattle or when creating a tack barn.

What Form Roll Is Best For Metal Panel Fencing?

What Is The Best Gauge For Metal Panel Fencing?

In our experience, 28 gauge metal is the best gauge for metal fencing. While we offer thicker metal gauges for our Standing Seam panels and Board and Batten panels, those form rolls need the extra thickness to function properly. Since those form rolls are not well suited for fencing, the added gauge will not be of any benefit.

How Tall Can Metal Panel Privacy Fences Be?

30&#; is the longest continuous piece of metal that we can cut for a metal fence panel. Because of this, you could make your fence as tall as you would like with the proper bracing. However, most municipalities do have restrictions on how high your fence can be. Because of this, we recommend that you check your zoning ordinances.

Most people make fences between 6&#; and 8&#; tall. If you are unsure of how tall to make your fence, we recommend going with this height for several reasons, including the fact that it is easy to work on. As you increase the fence height, the more difficult it is to install. Additionally, higher fences require significantly more bracing.

Do Metal Panel Fences Get Hot In The Summer?

Metal panel fences may get hot depending on where you are located and what time of year it is. In our service area, you won&#;t have to worry about your fence becoming hot, but it may become warm. Additionally, the temperature of your fence will be dependent on the color of fencing that you choose. 

What Metal Is Best For Metal Panel Fencing?

Galvalume Steel is the best metal for metal panel fencing. We know this sounds a little biased as we sell steel panels. However, when you look at other products that are available on the market, they are either cheaply constructed products, very costly, or do not provide total privacy.

Do I Need Metal Trim To Install Metal Panel Fencing?

Possibly, it depends on how you install your metal panel fencing. Some people may be okay with the &#;bare edge&#; of the panel or will use a piece of wood to be the top edge. On the other hand, some people have used J-Channel to run along the edge of the top to cap off the fence.

Will I Need Wood To Install The Metal Panel Fencing?

Yes, you will need some wood to install your metal panel fencing. You will need far less wood to create a metal panel fence than you would need to complete a wooden fence. Traditionally, all that you will need for your fence is posts and 3 support boards to give stability to your metal panels.

How Do I Install Metal Panel Privacy Fencing?

Method 1

While installing a metal panel privacy fence may seem complicated, we will break the process down into a step-by-step guide for every homeowner to follow. Before you get started, here is a list of tools that you should have to install the privacy fence.

• Circular Saw
• Impact Driver and Bits
• Level
• Tape Measure and Pencil
• Tin Snips

Materials Needed

• 4×4 Treated Lumber Posts
• 2×4 Treated Lumber 
• Concrete or Sakrete
• 3&#; Construction Screws
• 1 ¼&#; Tin Screws
• Wagler Steel Panels

Step 1 &#; Prep the Area

Good planning is the key to project success. Once the materials are bought, start by preparing the area to set the posts. Measure and mark where your posts should be placed, and dig holes for each one, preferably around 24&#;-36&#; deep. 

Step 2 &#; Set the Posts

Once the holes are dug, mix up the concrete and put several inches of concrete in the hole, then set the 4×4 treated post into it. Fasten a brace to hold the post upright and use the level to make sure that it is exact. Next, pour more concrete around the base of the post. At this point, you can let it dry for several hours before removing the brace and filling the rest of the whole with dirt. 

If the ground is unlevel or you find it difficult to make the tops of the posts all level, it may be easier to cut them later. Make sure the post goes higher than you know it needs to be, and it will be cut later to the exact height.  

Step 3 &#; Fasten the Horizontal Supports

Once the posts are set, the horizontal 2×4 supports can be put installed. These will run from post to post horizontally to the ground every 2&#; or 3&#;, and this is where you will fasten the metal later. 

Start by fastening the top 2×4 board along the top of the fence. This board should be several inches below where you want the top of the fence to be. If this row of boards is level, then you can measure off of the it for the rest of the rows. 

Once this row is fastened with 3&#; screws, measure how high you want the top of the posts to be and cut them off with a saw. 

Space at least two more rows of 2×4 boards evenly below the first row that is already installed.

Step 4 &#; Attach Metal Panels

Now that the framework is up, the metal panels can be attached. Install a piece of J-channel on whichever side you begin. Starting there, attach the first metal panel with tin screws every 8&#;-12&#; along each 2×4 board. Overlapping one rib, continue installing the metal panels until you reach the opposite side.

Step 5 &#; Fasten J-Channel

Once all the metal panels are installed, finish off the end with a J-Channel to give it a nice finished look. Then, run J-Channel along the top of the metal panels, fastening them on the posts. This will cap the top nicely.

Method 2

The second method from the video above uses lumber to finish off the edges. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to create a privacy fence similar to the one mentioned in this video.

Here are some tools that would be used in this project:

Step 1 &#; Prep the Area  

The first two steps of this guide are the same as the one above.  Once you buy your materials, start by preparing the area to set the posts. Measure and mark where your posts should be placed, and dig holes for each one, preferably around 24&#;-36&#; deep.

Step 2 &#;  Set the Posts

After digging the holes, prepare the concrete and pour a few inches into each hole. Set the 4×4 treated post into the concrete, securing it with a brace to maintain an upright position. Use a level to ensure precision. Add more concrete to the bottom &#; of the hole, allowing it to dry for several hours before removing the brace. Fill the remaining hole with dirt and tamp it down. .

If the ground is uneven or leveling the tops of the posts proves challenging, consider cutting them later. Ensure the posts extend higher than necessary, allowing for adjustments to the exact height during the cutting process.

The more level your fence is, the easier it will be to install the metal panels.

Step 3 &#; Add the Horizontal Framework

Begin with fastening the top row of 2×6 treated boards onto the front face of the post where you want the top of the fence to be. The metal will be fastened to the back side of this board. Use the level to make sure that these boards are straight. Once this first row is attached, cut off the posts flush with the top edge of the board. This will allow you to cap the top of the fence with another 2×6 board.

Add another row of 2×6 boards to the bottom of the fence where you want the bottom edge to be. This, too, should be on the front face of the 4×4 post. 

Halfway between the top and bottom boards, install a row of 2×4 boards. Unlike the other boards, this row will be behind the metal and will not be seen from the front. Fasten this row between the posts so the front edge of the board is ¾&#; &#; 1 ½&#; from the front face of the post. The space between should match the depth of your metal panel. 

Step 4 &#; Install Metal Panels

Install your metal panels vertically from post to post. The first and last one in each section will butt up to the 4×4 posts. From the front side of the fence, you will be able to see the top and bottom rows of boards, but the middle one should be hidden by the metal as you install it. Fasten the metal panels every 12&#;-18&#; on the top, middle, and bottom boards.

Step 5 &#; Fasten Trim Boards

In order to finish out the fence, fasten a 2×6 board to the top of the fence. This piece should run from the top of one post to the top of the another one and should be flush with the top row of rows on the front side to create a nice finished corner.

Add another trim piece to the front side of the posts. Measure and cut a 2×6 board to fit between the top and bottom row of boards and fasten it onto each post. Space it so it covers the edge of the metal panels on both sides of the post.

Mesh rolls or panels? Which one to choose?

Hello everyone, we are from Fenceshop and today we will guide you in choosing between a welded mesh roll and a rigid fence panel. These two products are often confused, but in reality, they belong to two completely different families of fences. We aim to clarify and offer practical advice to help you find the most suitable model for your needs.

The main differences

Welded mesh rolls are sold in rolls, usually 25 meters long, with relatively compact dimensions. In contrast, modular rigid panels have a fixed length of two meters and are already rigid and ready for use. Both models are made of welded iron wire, but the mesh has wires thin enough to be rolled up, whereas the panels do not.

Panels often feature folds that not only embellish the product but also increase its rigidity. Both models are galvanized and plastic-coated, mainly available in green, while anthracite is more common in panels than in meshes. There are various types of links and wires for each family of products, offering solutions for different contexts, from residential to sports.

How to choose the right fence

The first aspect to consider is the budget. Mesh rolls tend to be less expensive, with prices ranging from 5 euros per meter, while panels can cost between 15 and 20 euros per meter.

The second aspect concerns the installation location. If you need to fence a steep or difficult-to-access area, mesh rolls are the best choice. For flat areas or walls, modular panels are more suitable and easier to install. Panels are ideal for walls thanks to the plates to be bolted, while meshes require T-posts and welded plates.

Aesthetics and robustness are other factors to consider. Panels offer a sturdier and more significant appearance, while meshes are more discreet. Both products can be cut with wire cutters, so safety is relative.

Ease of installation

Installing panels on walls is simpler: just bolt and wedge the post. Meshes, on the other hand, require welding the plates onto T-posts, tensioning the tension wires, and tying the mesh. On steep terrain, meshes are preferable, whereas on flat terrain, both products are suitable.

Transporting the material

Do not forget the bulk of the material. Panels are more cumbersome and require pallet transport, while mesh rolls are easier to load and transport, even in a car with a roof rack.
