I learned some stuff then I got some real Engineers to do the math.
It seems that 12 to 18 inch tubes are the best size at about 100 feet long, and buried at least 6 feet deep or deeper and you prefer the tubes to slope away from the building and be open to outside air at the end.
I found that 15" PVC is available so thats what I bought.
The tube slopes away from the building to allow condensate to run out.
Condensate is formed by the moisture condensing out of the warm air as it cools and letting it run out the slope eliminates worry about mold.
Smooth PVC allows a swab to be drawn thru the tubes if you are really worried about mold.
Soak the swab with bleach.
In the winter, the outside air coming into the house, say at 32 degrees is moving thru earth that stays at a constant temperature year round, about 58 degrees in your area.
Thus when the air travels thru the tube to your building, it will be close to 58 degrees.
Thats a lot better than 32 and you may add only a little heat for your house and maybe no heat to the shop.
In the 95 degree summer with high humidity, the hot air is drawn thru the tubes and loses humidity as it cools.
Combine the earthtubes with a solar chimney to improve the airflow.
In other words the air traveling thru the tubing is cooled or warmed to match or almost match the temperature of the earth surrounding the tubes.
It doesnt matter if the tubes are plastic, metal or fibreglas but avoid concrete tubes.
The Engineers calculated 2.4 tons of cooling per tube.
I have 14 foot walls for my shop and will have an earthtube at all four corners of my 40 X 40 shop.
In your case, I dont think you have enough slope from your house to the road out front and I dont think your house is 100 feet to the street.
I may be wrong, since I have only been to your house once and I was looking at the cars and wishing you were home.
Maybe you can slope 100 feet to the east or north?
