TL;DR: If you need to permanently mount a camera, or if you can drill a hole in a metal bracket, and if a fixed lens is what you need, this is an excellent camera.

&#; Not designed for out-of-the-box use as a typical webcam for podcasts, Zoom meetings, etc.

If you can drill and ¼&#; hole in the metal jacket, you can use this as you would any other webcam and you can mount it, as I show in the attached pictures, on any standard type tripod as well as a cold shoe so that you can easily transfer it from one tripod to another. All you need is a 1/4'&#; metal drill bit, a drill of course, and a pair of pliers to hold the bracket as you drill (don&#;t hold it by hand, it&#;ll spin on you and could hurt you). I started with a smaller drill bit and that is why it looks a bit messed up in the pictures. Had I started with the ¼&#; bit, it would look fine. If I cared to (and I don&#;t) I could touch up the bracket and it would look like new. You will also need a ¼&#; nut to hold onto the ¼&#; bolt on the tripod/shoe, or whatever you are using.

I got this because all of my cameras were auto-focus, a feature that I thought I wanted. The reality is when sitting down and doing a podcast or web meeting, not only do you not need autofocus, you don&#;t really want it and there was no way to turn the autofocus off on any of my cameras. This meant that every time I moved in my chair, it would re-focus and it looked as if I was on a major dose of caffeine, jittering all the time.

The fixed focus is perfect for a range of about 1 foot and good for even more than that. I just set the focal length using the small Phillips screw, and never worry about it again.

This camera reacts better to light and shifting colors than my other cameras, especially those in the same price range. Overall, this is a much better camera than those (again, same price range or a bit higher) that have auto-focus and microphones built in. I use a separate USB mic or my laptop mic with this camera. The money spent on building this camera went into the optics, not the extras, and it shows. If you want quality, not fancy, this is a great buy.
