Key Questions to Ask When Ordering motor splitter connector manufacturer
Question about replacing engine on splitter - Arborist Forum
Log Splitter
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING PLEASE LISTEN!
On the Briggs & Stratton engines' cooling shroud, either on top where the plug is or on the side of the cooling shroud which is exposed, you will find the engine's serial number, type, and group number. You may need a little alcohol to clean the shroud to expose the numbers unless there is a sticker covering it. Use the alcohol to remove the sticker and access the numbers.
These numbers are necessary to order the EXACT engine model from Briggs and Stratton.
The reason any vertical crankshaft engine fails is typically due to lubrication issues. Most, if not all, vertical shaft gas engines fail because of bad oil pumps—if they are equipped with oil pumps—or because of a splash lubrication system that runs low on oil. Sometimes, a bearing fails on the crankshaft. This is why some engines are meant to be stationary while operating.
This is the only way to order the exact unit for this log splitter promptly. It helps avoid buying a new coupler half and hacking off a longer crank stub length, as my brother did instead of listening.
This method also eliminates problems with matching coupler halves, which can be an issue when buying an engine from a retailer who cannot guarantee engine shaft specs. I've been there with Northern Tool and an old log splitter.
Northern Tool maintains a significant inventory at all times, and it does not take long for an engine to arrive at your doorstep. This is why I was able to order and receive a replacement engine shroud for a 30-year-old 16-horsepower I/C engine last year.
I want you to succeed and not fail.

Buying a Splitter: Recent Equipment Feedback
The sale price for the unit was $1929.00. Northern Tool does not include engine oil or hydraulic oil, but I got to choose the oil I wanted, ensuring it was a high-quality product. Yes, TS and HD include oil in the units, but the additional cost was less than $100, and this way, Northern Tool is responsible for everything.
Now for the "Gotcha" (for assembly and readiness). I was told they would assemble it for $150.00. With a bit of luck, the shop staff know better than I do and have the necessary tools. The guy said if I bought their extended warranty protection for $199.00, they would assemble it for me. The warranty adds an additional year for all components, so the hydraulics and parts go from 4 to 5 years, and the Honda Engine goes from 3 to 4 years. From Day 1, they cover everything 100%, even if it's my fault (we will see about that). It doesn’t cover normal wear, but no other companies do either. We are sales tax exempt (farm certificate).
So, did I spend more than I needed? Yes. But after 2 years of looking at various used items that were barely discounted from new prices and facing a lack of sellers and inventory, I hope I have acquired a piece of equipment that will work for years without any trouble, and I can split any size log I find.
They will call me in a few days to pick it up, and then the fun begins.
