Let's Talk China Tigs
I'm no welder like some of you, but I can weld fairly well. Nothing like Jody for sure. However, I have been welding Tig, Mig, and stick for many years on and off. Remember, I'm a machinist, not a welder.
I have searched the internet for cheap Chinese machines. The price is the main attraction. The inspiration for this post came from a guy on the internet who claimed that many of these machines burn out due to the routing of wires in hot places, transformers, and the like. I'm no electrician by any means. Can any of you who are knowledgeable in electronics think if these machines can be upgraded to increase their lifespan?
Americans have an amusing talent for upgrading anything. I love Blue and Red and believe in that. My Mig and Tig machines are both MILLER. I would NEVER sell either of them unless forced to. But these new machines have gone beyond the old transformer ones I have. I'd like to be able to adjust frequency, which you cannot do with the old transformers.
That is my only issue with the older machines. But if you are not a skilled welder, you can overcome that. I'm not that good. It would be great for those of us with limited income if there were a way to make these Chinese machines last a bit longer than the reports I keep hearing.
GOD, I love this forum and Jody for sharing his knowledge with us. The internet is fantastic with forums like this.
Thank each and every one of you for helping this old fellow in my retirement. God bless you all.

I'm a retired Tool & Die maker. I kept some of my equipment for retirement and enjoy making things. I'm no welder like some of you, but I can weld fairly well. Nothing like Jody for sure. China Welding Machines
On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Upon refloating some of the ships, a Navy diver recovered an unexploded bomb that said 'Made in USA' on it. It had been emptied of explosives and sold to the Japanese as scrap in the 1920s. They kept that bomb for two decades and recommissioned it to use against us instead of scrapping it.
Harbor Freight might have welders that are better than Miller or even the wire-feed Finger Of God, but I still won't buy them because I refuse to knowingly finance a country that has made public statements that their intent is to destroy us as a world competitor. Besides, they don't develop their technology, they steal it from us, and by buying it, any Chinese-purchasing American consumer is complicit in the theft. In my opinion, anyway.
I'm glad you guys are getting your dollar's worth out of your purchases, and I hope that history shows me to be a misguided fool when it's said and done. I do truly hope that.
