Save Money When Buying Makeup - That Practical Mom

For more information, please visit our website.

Today&#;s post is a little belated, considering the corresponding video went up over two weeks ago, but I blame wedding/honeymoon. Which seems like a fair excuse. Today I&#;m sharing some of my FAVORITE tips for saving money when you&#;re buying makeup.  There is nothing worse than spending more money on something than you have to. And, as a beauty-obsessed gal, I am always searching for ways to save my wallet when purchasing. So, I put together my best tricks to save money on makeup and beauty products!

1. Split with friends

More often than not, many products you buy actually come with way more of the product you can use up before it goes bad or expires. So, try picking up a bunch of those small travel containers and then get together with your girlfriends and pick up a bunch of products and split them among you! This works great for things like lipsticks (you can pop these into pans), loose powders, primers, foundations, gel liners, perfumes, and more!

2. Take advantage of stores with good points systems.

In my opinion CVS and Ulta have the best reward system. Both give you points (Ulta on everything you buy, CVS on specific brands every week) that you can exchange for straight up MONEY to spend in the store. Other reward systems are good offering coupons, free products, etc. But, if it were up to me, the best option is money I can spend on whatever I want.

3. Know your stores.

Makeup stores like Ulta and Sephora put the most expensive products at eye level- because they want your money. Make sure when you are browsing, that you are looking above and below eye level for the deals!

4. Before buying online, check RetailMeNot for coupons.

It&#;s a free app on your and saves me money ALL THE TIME!

5. Take advantage of stores with good return policies.

Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macy&#;s, CVS, Rite-Aid, Walmart, Walgreens, and Target will all allow you to return beauty items that have been opened and used once or twice. Nothing worse than spending money on a product you hate or doesn&#;t make your skin tone.

6. Shop informed.

If you&#;re shopping for specific products, always do a little research first. There are A LOT of brands and products, and once in the store it&#;s easy to get overwhelmed. So, read some reviews before hand, do a little research, and have an idea of which products you&#;re thinking to get.

7. Last tip is for Sephora exclusively.

It&#;s a little known fact Sephoras inside of JCPenney&#;s always have the best clearance sections- so scope them out for the best deals!

9 Brilliant Ways to Save Money on Beauty Products

It's hard out there for a girl on a budget. That's especially true if you have a serious beauty habit, since some droolworthy beauty buys (looking at you, $200 face lotion) can cost crazy-high prices for very small amounts of actual product. But not all hope (or money) is lost! Even a bona fide beauty addict can find ways to score a great discount on beauty products. You might already be familiar with the smart ways to save on drugstore beauty and amazing rewards programs from brands like MAC. But in breaking news for your wallet, there's even more you can do to save cash money. Start by following these tips.

Poke Around for Discount Codes

Not too many beauty retailers will splash the word &#;SALE!!!&#; in all-caps on their websites; it's a little counterintuitive. But with a bit of digging, you can usually find special promo codes for travel-size products or, once in a blue moon, even full-size. Sephora offers them on a weekly basis, while both Bluemercury and Clarins have entire pages dedicated to special deals.

Be Strategic About Samples

Pro-tip: The department store counter is your friend. Companies usually have a generous policy about giving out samples to try at home&#;and speaking from personal experience, this is especially helpful if you have an obsession with a certain, fairly pricey foundation that starts &#;Armani&#; and ends with &#;Luminous Silk Foundation.&#; Also, Target has a Beauty Concierge in many of its stores now&#;a.k.a. someone dedicated to helping you out with your beauty questions. This Beauty Concierge is loaded up with samples, so you can try whatever you want at home and come back for the full-size version (...or more samples) if you love it. If you&#;re shopping online, SpaceNK encourages its customers to try samples. You can call the store&#;s customer service line, where, after a quick convo about your needs and what you&#;re looking for, the customer service team will mail out samples tailored to you.

Save Your Sprees for Big Sales

At this point, Nordstrom&#;s Annual Sale (happening in July) is like a holiday. SpaceNK too has a big sale every so often called its Explorer&#;s Promotion, where for all items (excluding sale items), you receive $20 off every $100 you spend&#;essentially a 20 percent discount, because it takes us three minutes to click $100 worth of beauty products into our virtual shopping bags. Mark your iCal, because the next one is happening from April 20 through May 1.
