The Best Cutting Tool Manufacturer.
I'm finding I have different favorites for different types of inserts; Ingersoll makes awesome insert drills in a range of sizes... we're using several of their lines in sizes from 3/8 up to 3" diameter and they enable us to run at speeds that I thought were insane when I first read the recommendations, but it's no b.s. One of their families of drills get us tool life ranging up into thousands of holes per insert. Their milling inserts would be great if they'd quit "improving" them and discontinuing the "obsolete" versions... we've had several instances where the "old" version of an insert outperformed the "new" by a fair margin.
Their turning inserts aren't bad, but I've worked with better in terms of tool life. For turning and other work on the lathe I'd say it's a wash between Valenite and Iscar, depending on the application.
Solid carbide endmills, it's funny, but I've actually been getting some really good ones from AccuPro right out of MSC. Great life, and an effective coating that enables faster speeds than some I've had from Monster Carbide and other places. And what's really funny is that the very best ones I've ever used were regrinds from a guy in a nearby town who specializes in cutter grinding... something about the geometry he uses gives his regrinds better tool life than the factory geometry by a fair bit... I did a side by side comparison once when we were sending him lots of Monster Carbide endmills to regrind.
