XLPE power cable, which standard is better IEC 60502 or BS 5467

Good day to all

I am doing a project of adding a LV motor to the existing plant. The Power cable as per our specification is according to IEC 60502 and Contractor is offering BS 5467. Is there any technical difference in the construction of the cable between IEC and BS standards. One of my colleague says IEC rated cable insulation thick ness is more for the same rating compared to BS rated cable. Is it true. I request your valuable advise before accepting BS 5467 rated cable.  Thanks in advance .. Ramesh

IMO, IEC 60502 cables are larger in overall diameter compared with BS 5467 cables for the same conductor size(rating). I cannot see any significant difference in insulation thickness between the two standards!

Thanks for the reply, When contacted the cable vendor IEC rated cable will be higher cost compared to BS standard cable. he is only a sales guy and not able to explain technically why? i have asked the vendor to justify on the cost difference.Another thing is , if the Over all dia is more for IEC 60502 spec, I hope the tickness of the insulation should be more. I have the IEC standard copy but not the BS 5467. I am not able to compare exact difference between standards. The reason i need this information is, Our company spec is IEC and If we decideto buy BS standard cable I have write justification for deviation from original specification. Thanks again for your reply

Just check the flammability, but from conctrete example

http://www.nexans.fr/eservice/Germany-en/navigate_201854/BS_5467_Armoured_SWA_Flame_retardant.html#top

seems that IEC 60332-1-2 is fulfilled in both cases but the best way is to compare concrete 2 cables not standards in general.

The IEC 60502 covers also unarmored cables and BS 5467 only armored so this is in my opinion the only thing you should be aware.Just check the flammability, but from conctrete exampleseems that IEC 60332-1-2 is fulfilled in both cases but the best way is to compare concrete 2 cables not standards in general.
